Welcome
The Seaspray community supports responsible renewable energy, but not offshore wind farms located within 25km of shore.

The Seaspray Windfarm Strategy Group (SWSG) is a dedicated subcommittee of the Seaspray Ratepayers Association, formed in mid-2025 in response to widespread community concern about proposed offshore wind developments in the Gippsland Offshore Wind Zone.
The SWSG does not support the Blue Mackerel offshore wind project, which is proposed for waters just 10km offshore, directly in front of the Seaspray Surf Club. In contrast, the group does support projects which are located more than 25km from the coastline.
The SWSG believes that communities such as Seaspray and The Honeysuckles are being asked to shoulder all the risk of offshore wind development with none of the benefit. The group exists to protect the region’s visual amenity, natural environment and community social license.
Australia has the space. Offshore wind can and should be developed at a respectful distance from residential and recreational coastal areas.

SWSG was founded by residents, ocean users, business owners and environmental advocates who believe in a balanced, responsible approach to renewable energy.

OUR MISSION
To give Seaspray a voice in offshore wind planning.
Supporting renewable energy that respects local values,
safeguards natural beauty and preserves the health of our oceans.
Now and for future generations.

OUR VALUES

1. Responsible Renewable Energy
Min 25km setback aligns with global best practice & public expectations.

2. Community Voice & local decision making
We believe in early consultation, open communication and respectful engagement with local residents, businesses and traditional custodians.

3. Respect for first nations Custodianship
Gunaikurnai (Brataualung clan) are the Traditional Owners of much of Gippsland country and Seaspray coast. Offshore development must honor cultural heritage, include first nation voices from the outset, uphold principles of care, connection and long-term stewardship.

4. Marine Protection & Scientific Integrity
We advocate for rigorous, independent environmental assessments and decisions based on sound marine science. Not fast tracked planning or incomplete studies.

5. Safeguarding Local Livelihoods
We rely on healthy oceans and scenic coastlines. Tourism, recreational fishing, boating and beach culture are essential to our identity and economy. Blue Mackerel's development must not threaten the industries and experiences that sustain Seaspray's way of life.

6. Constructive, Informed Advocacy
We are not anti-renewables - we are pro-responsibility and aim to be a trusted voice for our community.

These real-world images, taken by our roving reporter during trips to operating wind farms overseas, reveal the scale, lighting and presence of turbines from shore. This is why we're calling for responsible siting - at least 25km offshore.

In Massachusetts there was a blade failure with debris from the turbine washing up on nearby beaches for more than a month. Vineyard Wind officials
say they have removed about
17 cubic yards or more than SIX truckloads.
